No 2 Pery Square BY Fiona Linnane – 2023

‘No 2 Pery Square’, is exciting new project currently in production.

Opera Workshop received substantial funding from the Arts Council of Ireland and the Limerick City and County Council Arts office, in order to research and develop a new site-specific opera. Working with Limerick Civic Trust we spent time in the rooms and grounds of The People’s Museum of Limerick at No 2 Pery Square developing a very Limerick opera.

Work commenced in January 2020 with Artistic Director Shirley Keane leading members of the Opera Workshop Ensemble, with composer Fiona Linnane through a number of days of devising and exploration of the much loved Limerick landmark. Fiona Linnane, thanks to the Arts Council of Ireland Commission Award subsequently wrote a 90 minute opera for six singers and chamber ensemble.

With Research & Development Funding from the Arts Council and Limerick City & Co Arts Office the work was recorded and produced for a small invited audience in March 2022, the opera is a thrilling work in the making.
